In 1998, the government of Ontario passed the Legal Aid Services Act which called for the establishment of Legal Aid Ontario, an independent but publicly funded non-profit corporation to help administer the province’s legal aid program.
The mandate of Legal Aid Ontario is to ensure access to justice throughout Ontario to low-income individuals through a variety of measures. Legal Aid Ontario’s blog is a helpful resource on the corporation’s website for anyone looking for quick information regarding the legal system and how to get legal aid in Ontario. Information is easily searchable by alphabetized subjects and is updated regularly.
