English and French Lessons for Newcomers

The government of Ontario has a number of different programs that are available for newcomers to Canada that help them gain greater facility in both French and English, no matter how long they have been in Ontario.
On this page, you will find a list of places where the necessary CLARS language assessment is available by location within Ontario. This assessment is required in order to find out which program will best suit your needs. These are programs that are offered to people whose first language is not English and who is a naturalized citizen, a permanent resident, or a refugee claimant.

Ontario Language Interpreter Services
The government of Ontario provides Language Interpreter Services (LIS) to service providers across Ontario who deal with victims of domestic violence, sexual violence or human trafficking to ensure that they are able to communicate with clients who have limited French or English language skills, are deaf, or otherwise hard of hearing. These services are available to all service providers in the province who work with victims of these kinds of crimes to ensure that they may access language interpreters on behalf of their clients.
