IRCC Warns Of New Phone Scam
posted on May 22, 2018
The Candian Immigration Ministry issued a warning for immigrants and refugees in Toronto and Vancouver about a phone scam that is targetting them. The Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) has said that newcomers can be the target to calls “from individuals claiming to represent the Immigration and Refugee Board (IRB).” In these calls, scammers claim that the newcomer is under investigation and is told to pay them money.
The IRCC ensures that the IRB does not ask for money from newcomers and that they are working on identifying the perpetrators. If you do receive one of those calls, you should hang up and call the Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre at 1-888-495-8501.
Canada Increases The Number Of Immigration Judges
The Canadian government has increased the number of citizenship judges from 5 to 14 judges. This decision comes months after the Canadian Immigration Ministry relaxed the requirements for obtaining a Canadian citizenship. The appointment of the new judges allows newcomers to obtain a citizenship faster than before. This goes along with the Canadian government's direction of making the immigration and citizenship processes easier. The new rules resulted in a surge in the application rate for acquiring citizenship. You can read more about the recent developments by checking out this article!
