Workplace Conflict

Bullying is often thought of as taking place among children or teens, and often in a school environment. But bullying in the workplace among adults also exists, and can have long lasting, negative effects on both the victim of the bullying, as well as company/employer overall. Instances of workplace conflict are normal. However, these are typically isolated incidents and can be dealt with effectively by those involved. Workplace bullying is repeated, continuous behaviour that is negative, persistent, hurtful and abusive. Tough management styles are not necessarily forms of bullying, if handled correctly. Examples of workplace bullying include social isolation (purposefully excluding a co-worker, giving the silent treatment, etc.), spreading rumours, attacking a co-worker’s private life or personal attributes, unfair, unjust or excessive criticism, and verbal aggression. If any of these sound familiar, and like something you, or a friend or loved one are experiencing at work, we know how difficult it can be to handle. If you are looking for help or information on how to manage conflict in your workplace, are interested in knowing your legal rights, or would simply like to find someone who you can talk to you about the situation, we want to help.
