Self-Esteem & Self-Worth

Your self-esteem, or self-worth, refers to your overall judgment of yourself. This is an emotional evaluation - and can be either a positive or negative one. Many factors can go into how a person feels about themselves, including ethnic, cultural, social, and religious ideals, as well as certain personal experiences. Self-esteem can change over time, either improving with maturity or becoming worse. Having a low self-esteem, or a negative view of yourself can lead to mental and emotional stress, causing mental health symptoms such as depression or anxiety. If you are looking for information, guidance, community resources or support for low self-esteem, or to help you face mental health challenges that are related, we are here to help.

Self-esteem

The Costs and Causes of Low Self-worth

This report brings together the findings of research projects about the nature, origins and consequences of variations in self-esteem among young people. It considers the potential role of self-esteem in intervention with vulnerable young people and examines the nature of self-esteem. It explores to what extent self-esteem is a quality that some individuals possess more of than others and whether it is a state that fluctuates. The report also highlights the difficulties in relation to measuring changes in self-esteem and how it can be modified through interventions. Most notably, this report outlines what is known about self-esteem and the consequences of high versus low self-esteem, recognising that high self-esteem does not necessarily have only positive outcomes.

Beyond Self-Esteem

Discovering Your Boundless Self-Worth

How can we overcome the problem of seeing our "self" negatively and the resulting low self-esteem? Is there a way to be in a state of awareness where our goodness and self-esteem is evident, irrefutable, and permanent? This book opens your mind to the presence of your boundless and inherent self-worth within; transforming the way you think about your "self", life, and the world in revelatory ways. Using every-day experiences and insights gained with the help of her training in the Practice of EFT (Emotional Freedom Techniques), being a mother of four, a wife and her study of The Course in Miracles, Eloisa Ramos sheds light into our perceptions and how we come to think the way we do. Subconscious processes that often lead us to see our “self” and the world negatively can now be observed and changed. Beyond Self-Esteem: Discovering Your Boundless Self-Worth opens your mind to a Spiritual understanding of your "self" and to the inherent, limitless value that is found there. Unlike most other self-help books, which paint self-esteem as something that needs to be built up, to be improved; Beyond Self-Esteem dispels this widely accepted perception and helps guide us to a mind-opening idea; that our self-worth already exists whole and perfect. This book will take you deep into the inner workings and belief structures of your perceiving mind, teaching you how to uncover, revise and let go of your negative beliefs around self-worth and discover the untouchable and boundless truth. In an elegant exposition informed by many years of helping people to understand feelings of shame, leading Jungian analyst Mario Jacoby provides a timely and comprehensive exploration of the many aspects of shame and shows how it occupies a central place in our emotional experience. As well as providing practical examples of how therapy can help, Jacoby draws upon a wealth of historical and cultural scholarship to show how important shame is for us in both its individual and social aspects.

The Self-Esteem Workbook for Teens

Activities to Help You Build Confidence and Achieve Your Goals

As a teen, it is incredibly important to have self-confidence, especially when you consider societal pressures about appearance and grades. Just growing up is difficult in and of itself, and in the midst of all this life-related stress, you may not be seeing yourself clearly. In fact, you may be magnifying your weaknesses and minimizing—or even ignoring—your true assets. Psychologists believe that low self-esteem is at the root of many emotional problems. When you have healthy self-esteem, you feel good about yourself and see yourself as deserving of the respect of others. When you have low self-esteem, you put little value on your opinions and ideas, and may find yourself fading into the background of life. Without some measure of self-worth, you cannot accomplish your goals. In The Self-Esteem Workbook for Teens, you will learn to develop a healthy, realistic view of yourself that includes honest assessments of your weaknesses and strengths, and you will learn to respect yourself, faults and all. You will also learn the difference between self-esteem and being self-centered, self-absorbed, or selfish. Finally, this book will show you how to distinguish the outer appearance of confidence from the quiet, steady, inner acceptance and humility of true self-esteem. The book also includes practical exercises to help you deal with setbacks and self-doubt, skills for dealing with criticism, and activities that will aid in the development of self-awareness, self-acceptance, and self-worth. With the right amount of self-confidence, you will have the emotional resources you need to reach your goals.
