Child Support - Separation & Divorce

The decision to end a marriage or partnership can be a very difficult one, particularly if there are children involved. Deciding on whose primary care the children will be under, where they will live, working out parenting arrangements, and financial support for children are all issues that need to be addressed, and there is not a one-size-fits-all solution for all families. Child support refers to the amount of money that a parent pays, following a separation or divorce to help support his or her child. Children are legally entitled to this support under Canadian law. (http://justice.gc.ca) Parents are encouraged to work out child support amounts and payment terms on their own. If they cannot come to an agreement, the court will decide for them using both federal and provincial guidelines, taking into account the family’s particular situation. If you would like more information on child support, the guidelines around it, how to calculate and determine child support amounts, or if you are in need of a mediator or lawyer to help you settle on child support payment amounts and terms, we have the resources you need.
