Abandonment & Reconciliation

Families and individuals can experience abandonment in different ways. Abandonment can happen when one family member chooses to deny or ignore the core responsibilities that someone else either expects of them or needs them to fill, such as parental obligations or roles and responsibilities within a marriage. Abandonment can also refer to when one person chooses to end an existing relationship with someone else despite the fact that the other person does not want them to. In cases where a child is being abandoned, it can be particularly traumatic. With abandonment can bring many emotions including confusion, hurt, anger, and distrust. Reconciling, and regaining closeness with someone that has abandoned you, or, that you have abandoned can be very difficult, but it is possible to re-establish a healthy relationship.
