Serious Illness - Family Life

Managing health and fitness properly can take time, thought, and planning. Regular exercise, nutritious healthy meals, and yearly checkups all contribute to a healthy fitness level. However, at times, a family may be faced with a serious illness, and having a seriously ill family member can impact many aspects of life. Depending on who is sick within a family, friends, family, school, work, emotional and mental health, and finances can all be affected. Parents caring for a seriously ill child may have a hard time balancing their needs with those of their other, healthy children. An ill spouse can be difficult on the whole family unit, especially if one parent then has to take on sole responsibilities of household and child care, or if the sick spouse is the primary wage earner. Caring for an ill elderly parent can mean many they suddenly have many more needs that they rely on their family for, including transportation to appointments and meal assistance. We know the demand of dealing with a serious illness within your family can be high, and the mental, emotional, and physical strength necessary to do so can at times feel extreme or overwhelming. Taking care of others while also trying to balance your own work, social, and family life is hard. Caregiver relief can help alleviate some of the stress that can be involved in being responsible for another person’s care, by sharing the responsibility of care giving, and also offering support to the care giver to help balance the demands and challenges they may face. If you, a friend, or loved one is dealing with a serious illness within your family, Kinjunxion is here to help with sources of support and information.
